Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES)

Army Community Service

The mission of ACS is to facilitate a commander’s ability to provide comprehensive, coordinated and responsive services which support readiness of Soldiers, DA Civilian employees and their Families. We equip people with the skills and support to face military life today and tomorrow. Information and Referral Services: (706-791-0792); the Information Desk operates Monday - Friday, 0730 - 1600. A staff member performs receptionist duties, screens individuals requesting assistance, provides routine information on just about any topic and, when appropriate, makes referrals to ACS programs or other agencies within the community. Orientations and Briefings: The ACS staff is available to conduct or participate in orientations, briefings, and presentations. Sessions are arranged to familiarize Commanders, Military Personnel, Family Members, and the community with the services and resources available through ACS. Provide emergency financial assistance to Soldiers and their Families.

Christmas House

The purpose of the Christmas House Project is to ensure a traditional holiday celebration for those military Families unable to provide their own. Active duty and retired military Families may apply. This assistance is provided in the form of food and toys. The application period is October 1st through November 15th annually.

The facility offers two large training rooms, a full size kitchen, meeting area, covered outdoor playground for small children and a covered patio with two large outdoor grills. The facility is available for Family Readiness Group (FRG) meetings or Unit-related activities, by reservation only. The facility also serves as a Family Assistance Center which has priority for all usage.

Financial Readiness

ACS provides regular classes on personal financial management including budgeting basics, and schedules classes by unit request on a variety of financial related topics. They also work with Army Emergency Relief.

Retirement Services

Retirement Service Office (RSO) provides quality service, guidance, and information on benefits and entitlements to active duty Soldiers and their Family Members preparing for retirement. The RSO assists Soldiers and spouses in making a clear and concise Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) election prior to retirement. In addition to the above stated duties, the RSO also continues to provide service, updates, and guidance to all retirees, spouses, former spouses, and their children.

Swap and Assist Shop

Donated items such as clothing, shoes, kitchen utensils, baby items, books and other household goods are given to E-4s and below. Families in which the sponsor’s rank is E-5 and above, articles of equal value may be swapped for goods.

Freedom Park School

Freedom Park School is a Richmond County Board of Education School serving grades K-8. All K-8 school students who live on-post are zoned to attend Freedom Park. The goals of Freedom Park School are to build the self-esteem of all students, to provide programs enhanced by computer technology, to support and enforce the academic program that is given from the state and county, and to encourage a supportive and open partnership among students, teachers, parents and community.

Youth and Teen Center

Pregnancy and Postpartum Physical Training (P3T) exercise sessions assist Soldiers in maintaining optimal fitness during pregnancy and improving readiness postpartum, to return a fit Soldier back to unit PRT after maternity leave and the postpartum period.

DDEAMC Child and Family Behavioral Health Service (CAFBHS)

Provides direct behavioral health care services for children, adolescents, adult Family Members, couples, families, and Retirees. Services provided include psychosocial assessments, medication management, psychological testing, individual counseling, couples counseling, family therapy, group therapy, and psycho-education. CAFBHS therapists also provide individual and group counseling for sexual assault victims, including the Sexual Assault Recovery group, for both Active Duty and dependents. CAFBHS also provides behavioral health consultation to primary care managers, schools, community agencies, and other mental health providers.

DDEAMC Preventive Medicine

Environmental Health: Provides food and water safety inspections, food handler education, field sanitation class, barber shops health inspection, hazardous waste surveillance, and mosquito surveillance. Industrial Hygiene: Air and noise quality surveillance, Ergonomics assessment, ventilation quality assessment, and respiratory fit testing. Army Public Health Nurse: Health education on STI and HIV, latent TB infection, animal bite surveillance, Child and Youth Services health inspection and consultation, pregnancy PT, Performance Triad, annual flu vaccination, communicable disease surveillance and investigation, and other preventive and health promotion education. Adult assessment and neuro-psychology service, clinical psychology internship/residency programs, limited child services, health psychology, military psychology, psychological assessment lab, psychotherapeutic medication evaluation and management, group psychotherapy, and trans-cranial magnetic stimulation. Tobacco Cessation Program Call for dates/times Outpatient Behavioral Health offers a four session tobacco cessation program. Participants must attend all four sessions. Medications and nicotine replacement therapy is provided. Booster sessions are provided for those who have completed the four sessions and need extra support.

Drug Disposal

Most unused and unneeded pharmaceuticals can be disposed in special drop boxes located at the pharmacy. This removes potentially harmful medications from the home and provides environmentally safe disposal. Contact the Pharmacy for any special concerns.

The primary mission of the Snyder Dental Clinic is to provide quality and timely comprehensive dental care and maintain the readiness of the Soldiers assigned to Fort Gordon's supported units. The clinic's secondary mission is to support postgraduate dental education and training of Dental Corps officers participating in the Prosthodontic, Periodontic, and Endodontic Residency Training Programs. Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care (SUDCC)

Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care (SUDCC), formerly ASAP Clinical, treats Service Members with substance use disorders. The providers are licensed at an independent level in counseling or social work. Each provider specializes in and also holds a certification or licensure in substance use disorders. The SUDCC falls under the Behavioral Health System of Care (BHSOC) at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center (DDEAMC) and will be moving to the hospital location in the near future. SUDCC providers perform comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments, referrals to higher levels of care and/or other health care providers, Command Consultation and group therapy for Active Duty personnel within the Fort Gordon area. Self-referrals are encouraged. Referrals for Family Members and Retirees are coordinated through the ASAP, Employee Assistance Program at 706-791-3674.

Tingay Dental Clinic

The clinic's primary mission is to support postgraduate dental education and training of Dental Corps officers participating in the Prosthodontic, Periodontic, and Endodontic Residency Training Programs. Its secondary mission is to act as a referral clinic for both Snyder Dental Clinic and the Hospital Dental Clinic.

Wounded Warrior Ombudsman Program

The Wounded Warrior Ombudsmen serve as a local resource, facilitator, and problem solver for Service Members and their Families. Ombudsmen are located in the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and serve as a liaison between MEDCOM, the Soldier and Family member, the MTF commander, and the Warrior in Transition Unit (WTU) commander. The Ombudsman assists WTU and non-WTU Soldiers and their Families with medical related issues. The Wounded Soldier Family Hotline (WSFH) [(800) 984-8523] serves as a 24/7 resource to any beneficiary seeking assistance with a medical issue/concern including wounded, ill, and injured Soldiers, and military Caregivers. Whether you have questions about the Disability Evaluation System process, the VA Caregiver Program, or benefits, the WSFH and Ombudsmen are standing by to assist. The Fort Gordon Law Enforcement Center provides a variety of services to the Fort Gordon community to include weapons registration, documentation for lost ID card replacement, lost and found, walk-in reports, and traffic accident investigations. It also provides law enforcement capabilities across the installation to ensure a safe and secure environment for the Soldiers and civilians of the Fort Gordon community.

Provost Marshal/Police Administrative Services

The Police Admin section of the Directorate of Emergency Services supports both military and civilian through a variety of services which include: in/out processing of Soldier PCSing/ETSing, local law enforcement checks for Office of Personnel Management and contract investigations, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests vetted through the installation FOIA coordinator and information customer service on Military Police policies and procedure.

The Education Services Division offers counseling, college information, testing, a study area, and a computer lab. Counseling services include: education, career, and guidance counseling; MOS training, financial aid information i.e., scholarships, grants, loans, and FAFSA assistance; GI Bill education benefits program information, Tuition Assistance, evaluation of military experience for civilian college credit using the Joint Service Transcript (JST) or DD295, ROTC Green to Gold Program, AMEDD & IPAP information, and the FAST/BSEP program. Counselors will use the GoArmyEd website to maintain your education records. Counselors available: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 am, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. closed during lunch 11:30 a.m.m - 1 p.m. The MLF is available for use and has a computer lab (CAC required), a study area, and college information for the onsite colleges and the colleges that visit the instillation quarterly. The testing center is located in the building and the TCO administers ONLY the following tests: TABE, SIFT, AFCT, SAT, and ACT. The Education Services Division does NOT offer any Proctoring. The in-processing brief is held in Darling Hall (Room 229) every Monday and Thursday at 1300. Non-Permanent Party in-processing can be done at the ESD office any day during normal business hours. Disc Golf (Fort Gordon Disc Golf Course)

18-Hole Professional Disc Golf Course (36 hole -- early 2017). Disc golf is played like traditional golf, but with flying disc instead of balls and clubs. Players throw from the designated tee area to a metal basket. One point or stroke is counted each time the disc is thrown. The goal is to complete the hole with the fewest throws. The layout, suggested route and par for each hole will be displayed on the tee sign at each tee box.

Outdoor Recreation (Tactical Advantage Sportsman’s’ Complex)

The Tactical Advantage Sportsman’s Complex (TASC) is home to the Fort Gordon Outdoor Recreation program, located just across from Range 14. TASC has an interior of red tidewater cypress wood, including two tree trunks serving as girders, and features a fireplace in the lodge area and a deck area made of fieldstone. Also, it has an arms room where all firearms to be checked out are securely stored. Fort Gordon Outdoor Recreation offers an array of services such as hunting and fishing licenses, outdoor equipment rental, bicycles, fishing boats, archery equipment and firearms for target practice. TASC is a fantastic meeting place for camaraderie among sportsmen.

DDEAMC Fisher House provides temporary lodging in a warm, compassionate and caring “home away from home” environment to members of the Armed Services, Retirees, Veterans and their Families during a medical crisis. The Fisher House is a home away from home for families of patients who are currently admitted as patients at DDEAMC and the family member(s) are physically in the area. The Fisher House is a temporary residence and not a treatment facility, hospice, transient lodging facility or counseling center. Health care providers are not on the Fisher House staff. Families wishing to stay at the Fisher House should have a Fisher House referral form filled-out by their health care provider. Referral forms are available at the website address above. If the Fisher House is full the referral form will be used to add the families to the waiting list. Mobilization and Deployment Program

This program provides specialized training and support to the Soldiers and Family Members during war and peacetime. Also, it provides guidance, resources and training for Family Readiness Group (FRG) members and Commanders. Services are targeted to address pre-deployment, deployments, re-deployments or reunions, as well as establishing and re-energizing FRGs. Army Reserve and National Guard units are given assistance and support when mobilizing and demobilizing. Operation REAL materials and other resources are widely utilized. Activates the Emergency Family Assistance Center during contingency operations (severe weather, mass casualty, etc).

Army Community Service (ACS) operates a welcome desk where customers have complimentary computer stations, maps, general post information and other relocation assistance is available. Lending Closet: ACS Lending Closet loans basic household items for 30-day period to military personnel and their Families as they relocate into or out of the Fort Gordon area. ACS also provides information for local points of interest to newly arriving personnel. Information on other military installations is available online at Military HomeFront. Annual Drinking Water Quality Report

The Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is an annual drinking water quality report prepared by an organization that provides drinking water through a community water system. The US EPA requires that water purveyors for community water systems provide a CCR to their customers by July 1st every year. Information contained in the CCR includes the source of drinking water, applicable water quality requirements, and water system monitoring results for the previous year.

These services are free and confidential for qualifying veterans and active duty service members who have served in a combat zone or area of hostility and include: Assessment, Mental Health Counseling (individual, couple/family, or group), Counseling for Military Sexual Trauma, Bereavement Counseling, Employment and Education Referrals, Benefits Assistance and Referrals, and assistance connecting with other VA and community resources.

Augusta Warrior Project (AWP) - Transition Success Center

AWP connects Service Members and their Families who live in the Greater Augusta area of Georgia and South Carolina (Central Savannah River Area - CSRA) with resources that improve their lives in the areas of education, employment and veteran benefits. Augusta Warrior Project’s model is based on developing a proactive relationship with Service Members in order to prevent or mitigate life crisis by holistically addressing issues early and collectively with our partners. Service Member assistance is coordinated by Augusta Warrior Project advocates. Their collaborative relationships with local, state, and national organizations ensures the well-deserved support for Service Members and their families.

Augusta/Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) Habitat for Humanity

Nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization, locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - 'sweat equity' - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Habitat does not provide for urgent or emergency housing needs.

Augusta/Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) Habitat for Humanity ReStores

The Habitat ReStores are retail stores for new and used building, home-improvement materials and household goods. All merchandise donated to the ReStore is sold at prices substantially below retail value. Materials are sold to the public, including Do-It-Yourselfers, Contractors and Homeowners. The ReStore accepts most donations of new and used building and home-improvement materials that are in good, usable condition. Please call 706-481-9215 and select option #1 to make arrangements for donations. Pick up is available in some areas. Volunteers also are welcomed in the Habitat ReStore and to participate on committees.

VA Medical Center (Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center)

The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. The Downtown Division is authorized 155 beds (58 medicine, 37 surgery, and 60 spinal cord injury). The Uptown Division, located approximately three miles away, is authorized 315 beds (68 psychiatry, 15 blind rehabilitation and 40 medical rehabilitation. In addition, a 132-bed Restorative/Nursing Home Care Unit and 60 domiciliary are located at the Uptown Division. The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center and Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon entered into a Joint Venture for Shared Services, which provides for the cost-effective sharing of resources between these two federal health care facilities in the Augusta metropolitan area.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a tool to communicate the status of local air quality to the public—the Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI is derived from real-time air pollution measurements taken at monitoring stations throughout the United States. The AQI has three components: a color, a score and a health message recommending protective action based on the level of air pollution.

State Environmental Health Laboratory

State Environmental Health Laboratory supports statewide environmental health protection monitoring by performing analyses for chemical, microbiological, and radiological testing, biomonitoring of water, wastewater, air, soil, hazardous wastes, and other environmental concerns. State environmental health laboratories are associated with that state’s public health laboratory.

State Epidemiologist

State Health Department Lead State Epidemiologist is an appointed primary state epidemiologist, responsible for the identification and response for all health threats that occur within that state. This individual is selected by each state’s primary health official (usually the state health department director), or the state board of health. A state epidemiologist is usually responsible for each state’s infectious disease epidemiology program, often along with many other state health agency programs involved in disease detection and prevention.

State Public Health Laboratory

State Health Department Laboratory conducts laboratory testing for most all analysis requirements for public health surveillance. This may include monitoring and detection testing for environmental health, food safety, infectious diseases, newborn screening, public health preparedness, radiation safety, and many other tests. State public health laboratories are part of the National Laboratory Network, and respond to novel strains of disease, natural disasters, chemical spills, foodborne outbreaks, and other public health emergencies.

The SHARP personnel ensure victims of sexual assault understand the process of reporting and receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures. Prevention education training in SHARP is available to victims, survivors, units, Family Members and the community.

Mandatory workshops and seminars include transition overview and military occupational specialty crosswalk workshop, financial planning workshop, Department of Labor employment workshop, VA benefits briefing, individual transition plan review, and career track course. Staff evaluates clients’ needs and provide assistance with individualized transition plans. A pre-separation packet contains guidebooks which impart valuable information on transition services and benefits. This facility provides ongoing standardized job search skills training, individual assistance and counseling, workshops and seminars, and one-stop-job hunting activities. Individual counselors are available to provide personalized counseling as well as individual needs assessment. A reference library is also available for use.
